A Gathering of Balloon Twisters.February 16,17,18, 2001 Austin, Texas USA
It appears that Balloon Twister Gatherings are here to stay. Two years ago when T. Myers put together the first Balloon Twisters get together, T&Jam '99, nobody knew what would happen or if it would happen again. TJam 2001 without a doubt confirms that Twister Gatherings are here to stay. Many of the same folks that attended in '99 returned in '01. Many of these people in '99 were very proud of their ability to twist a poodle and bear. In 2001 they were working out details of color schemes, how to give depth and realism to eyes, the mechanics of motion and the subtleties of sculpture worthy of museum pieces. In just two short years a fractured group of people have been brought together by a crazy college kid's (Larry "Balloon HQ" Moss) capstone project in computer programing. They have chosen to share their skills with any twister at any time for the betterment of a group as a whole. Follow up conventions Twist and Shout, Millennium Jam and Euro Jam achieved success and support from the Twisting community further strengthening the Twisting community and bringing Balloon Twisting from the side act of a clown or magicians show to a stand alone entity of the arts and entertainment industry. T&Jam 2001 was attended by 277 twisters from 37 States and 9 Countries (France, Australia, Belgium, Netherlands, Canada, Japan, England, Mexico, USA), all of them latex crazy. A big THANK YOU goes out to each and everyone. Without you none of this is possible. We owe a big THANKS to our lecturers, Larry Moss, Bruce Kalver, Ken Stillman, Norm Barnhart, Patrick Brown and Marvin Hardy. These lecturers came in and allowed twisters to learn proven techniques on how to be successful. A special THANK YOU goes out to Ralph Dewey. Ralph came to TJam'01 on his own accord. Ralph provided a Sunday sermon and offered a lecture afterwards. A THANK YOU goes out to Prestige Balloons. Prestige again supplied samples of thier 260 line for everybody. Another THANK YOU goes to Suzuki Latex for the Rockets and Helicopters we had so much fun with at the Welcome. A THANK YOU goes to Superior Balloons, Superior provided sample packs for the registration bags. A THANK YOU goes out to Betallatex. Betallatex, an old company of 60 +? years is new to the Balloon Entertainer. They provided samples of their new 260 plus a variety of odd shaped balloons. With their extensive color line and apparent high quality they will become part of every Twisters inventory. And a final THANK YOU goes out to Qualatex. As always Qualatex was there giving support. They provided attendees with product sample, provided gifts for prize winners in the Fancy Figure contest and made it possible for Marvin Hardy to attend. They also provided special pricing for Qualatex brand balloons in the TJam Store. OK, OK enough gushing over ourselves, on to the good stuff...
